Waiting to Exhale (Film, 1995)

Now…

Let’s talk about a film released in 1995, Waiting to Exhale. During the June 2026 Sister Circle: Radiant Joy Celebrating the Summer Solstice, we revisited the film through the lens perspective that comes with life experience.

Although the stories were different, one question kept returning to my heart:

What are we waiting for?

Every woman in that movie was waiting…

• waiting for love.

• waiting for closure.

• waiting for someone to change.

• waiting to feel chosen.

• waiting to feel enough.

Each woman carried a different story, yet they all shared something in common. They were waiting for something they believed would finally make them whole. 

As our sister circle conversation unfolded, I realized this wasn’t just the characters stories. It’s ours too.

Maybe we're waiting... 

• Waiting until life slows down.

• Waiting until we’re healed enough.

• Waiting until we’re more confident.

• Waiting until we finally feel ready.

Somewhere along the way, we begin believing that life starts after something else happens. Yet, faith often invites us into something different. 

Not to wait until we can see the entire path. 

Not to wait until certainty arrives. 

Simply to take the next faithful step.

For me, that’s the heart behind Believe It To See It.

Faith doesn’t wait for certainty. It moves with Godfidence... the quiet confidence that God is already at work, even when the destination isn't fully visible. 

One of my favorite moments from Sister Circle wasn’t finding the perfect answer. It was watching women recognize pieces of themselves in the conversation. 

Some shared openly. Others reflected quietly. Some carried those reflections with them long after they left. Growth doesn’t always happen in the room. Sometimes it begins with a single question that follows us home: What Are We Waiting to Exhale?

So today, I’ll leave you with the same reflection questions we explored together:

What are you ready to release, and what are you ready to invite into this next season?

Where is God inviting me to see my situation more clearly?

Am I embracing what is, or holding onto what I hope it will become?

May you have the courage to release what no longer serves you, the wisdom to recognize what is unfolding, and faith to embrace the season ahead. 

Believe It to See It...

• Believe enough to stop waiting.

• Believe enough to recognize your worth.

• Believe enough to surrender. 

• Believe enough to begin.
