Everybody’s talking about Meg & Klay… but this episode has me reflecting on a deeper level. From infidelity to dating to the real questions I’m still sitting with…

What is sex spiritually if it’s not within marriage?

Is the act of sex itself a form of union?

Is marriage more than just a license?

If my existence is the result of generations of DNA coming together, how far back does connection really go? Back to my parents… their parents… and theirs… all the way to the beginning of humankind. Adam and Eve? All we all truly brothers and sisters?

The Book of Tobit teaches marriage within extended family wasn’t taboo, it was intentional. It kept covenant. It kept people bound to one another in ways that meant something. And when you start tracing the lines, you realize how thin the separation really is between “stranger” and “family.” The person you call a stranger might be closer to you than you know.

So what about the bonds we do choose?

Genesis 2:24 says that a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. One flesh. Not a metaphor. Not poetry. A spiritual and physical reality.

And if sex creates a bond, even without creating life, then what does that mean over time?

How many times have I created a “one flesh” connection without even realizing the weight of it?

How many people am I still carrying, or who are still carrying me, because of something I treated as casual?

I think the question itself is worth sitting in… as uncomfortable as it is.

We are all made from generations of DNA passed down over time, connecting us to a much bigger story… one that, for Black people, also includes a history shaped by slavery, where lineage was often formed through trauma rather than choice… bodies were not honored, only used.

While sex doesn’t exchange DNA unless life is created, it does create real biological and emotional bonds through hormones like oxytocin. That connection can leave an imprint, even when there’s no lasting relationship.

Imprint… yeah, let me go watch Twilight again.

We were never as disconnected as we convinced ourselves… and that’s either terrifying, or it’s the beginning of taking this thing seriously.

Maybe both.

In a marriage context, consummation traditionally means the first act of sexual union that seals or completes a marriage after a recognized commitment or covenant, symbolizing the full union. In some traditions, it’s even seen as what makes two “one flesh,” like in Genesis 2.

Let me sit with this a little longer… I’ll be back but in the meantime, tap in to
