Waiting on God? He’s never absent, so keep walking in faith.
This is a season of intentional wisdom. I’m putting myself in a Believe It to See It mode, where faith moves, prayers are answered, and progress is tracked. If you feel led to walk in wisdom this month, join me in reading a Proverb a day.
It’s not too late to start. Let’s seek, ask, and knock, because God always answers.
Right?
We say we’re waiting on God, but what if He’s really waiting on us? God is never absent, He’s always moving, always speaking, always present. It’s us who have to take the next step. Joshua 1:8 reminds us, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” That means wisdom requires action. It’s not just about waiting, but about preparing, building, and positioning ourselves in faith for what He’s already set in motion.
January 1 might be the start of the calendar year, but for me, my real new year begins with my birthday. That’s when I reflect on what I’ve learned, set intentions for where I’m going, and align myself with the wisdom God is calling me to. This year, I feel led to walk in wisdom more intentionally, which is why I’m committing to reading a Proverb a day this month. Proverbs is God’s book of wisdom, teaching us how to move, how to discern, and how to recognize the difference between divine instruction and distractions. It doesn’t just tell us to seek wisdom, it tells us to apply it.
Proverbs 1 reminds us that wisdom is calling, but will we listen? “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” (Proverbs 1:7). This chapter tells us that true wisdom starts with reverence for God. But what does “fear of the Lord” really mean? The word fear in the dictionary means an unpleasant emotion caused by belief that something is dangerous or threatening or a profound reverence and awe, especially toward God. In the Bible, fear of the Lord is mentioned over 300 times, not as terror, but as deep respect, honor, and submission to God’s authority. It’s an awareness that He is sovereign, His wisdom is supreme, and walking in His ways brings protection and clarity. Proverbs 1 warns us that when people ignore wisdom, they later cry out for it but don’t find it. This is a reminder that we can’t just seek wisdom in moments of crisis, we have to build a foundation on it daily.
Proverbs 2 tells us that wisdom must be pursued. “If you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.” (Proverbs 2:4-5). This chapter tells us that wisdom is something we must actively seek. It’s not something that just comes to us, we have to ask, seek, and knock (Matthew 7:7). When we make wisdom a priority, God protects, guides, and gives us deeper understanding.
Today’s Psalm for reflection is Psalm 37:23-24: “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholds him with His hand.”
Let’s take a moment to reflect with these journal prompts:
1. What does walking in wisdom look like for me in this season of my life? Where do I need to apply wisdom more intentionally?
2. Proverbs 2:4-5 says to seek wisdom like hidden treasure. What steps am I taking to actively seek God’s wisdom daily?
3. If waiting on God is really about positioning myself, what areas of my life need better preparation for what I am praying for?
Prayer for Wisdom & Discernment
Heavenly Father, as I prepare to step into this new chapter of my life, I seek Your wisdom above all else. You are never absent, and I don’t want to live as if I’m waiting on You when You’ve already equipped me to move forward. Teach me to walk in wisdom, to seek You like treasure, and to apply Your instruction daily. Your Word says that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. I submit my heart, my plans, and my desires to You, knowing that true wisdom comes from reverence for You. Give me the discipline to pursue wisdom, the discernment to recognize it, and the courage to follow where You lead.
Lord, guard my steps. Let me not be deceived by distractions, but give me ears to hear Your voice clearly. If I start to stray, pull me back. If I grow weary, remind me that my steps are ordered by You. I trust that every lesson I learn, every challenge I overcome, and every moment of faith I exercise is part of Your divine preparation. I seal this prayer in wisdom, reverence, and complete trust in You. May my life reflect the truth that You are never absent, and I am never alone.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
