Spiritually Speaking Newsletter: A Guide to Navigating Overthinking and Cultivating Spiritual Strength with Faith

Dear Beautiful Souls,

Happy Sabbath!

The Sabbath day, one day a week. The Sabbath year, every 7 years.

Jubilee year, every fiftieth year.

Whether you honor Sabbath at the end of the week on Saturday or at the beginning of the week on Sunday, remember God rested and because he rests, you can rest.

As we step into the final quarter of the year — this sacred season of harvest — I want to remind you that it's not just a time to gather what we've sown, but also a season to release what no longer serves us. It's the perfect time to reflect, reset, and deepen our trust in God.

October Journal (ideas)

  • Write down and reflect on a time you felt a strong connections with your deceased loved ones

  • Write down and reflect on family traditions that have been passed down and/or traditions you would like to start with your family or friends

  • Write down advice you've received from family members - how does it serve you today

  • Write down the name of a family member you admire (alive or deceased) and reflect on their qualities - how can you incorporate this into your own life

  • Write down any recent family discoveries - how has this shaped understanding your heritage

  • Write down how you honor your deceased loved ones - is this a tradition you want your children to continue

  • Write down lessons you've loved from family members (alive or deceased) - how can this guide you in your current challenges

  • Write down the legacies of your deceased loved ones

  • Write down the values you want preserved for future generations

Saint Dates to Remember

every Monday Guardian Angel - white - protection against evil eye, spiritual strength

October 4 Saint Francis - brown - understanding, peace, ecology & conservation

October 9 Saint Cipriano - purple - protection from harm, jail, weather, harassment, liars

October 9 Saint Louis Bertrand - white - protection

October 16 Saint Gerard Majella - white - pregnancy, expectant mothers

October 19 the deathiversay of my dog, TJ

October 28 Saint Jude - green/white/red - impossible cases, drug abuse, jail

As we prepare to close out the year, we also prepare to shed burdens like overthinking and codependency that have weight us down. In this season, I am reminded of the Fruits of the Spirit from Galatians 5 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” I am also reminded of the acts of flesh such as sexual immorality, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, and envy; to name a few from the passage. The word says that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Finding Peace and Strength in God: Overcoming Overthinking and Codependency

If you’re feeling burdened by overthinking and struggling with codependency. These challenges can feel overwhelming, but through faith and trust in God, you can find the strength to overcome them.

1. Letting Go of Control

Overthinking often stems from a desire to control every outcome. We can become entangled in the “what ifs” and doubts.

However, the Bible teaches us to trust in God’s plan, even when we don’t understand it fully.

Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

This verse is a reminder that you are not alone, and you don’t need to have all the answers. God is already guiding your steps, and He knows what is best for you.

2. Releasing Codependency and Seeking Wholeness in Christ

Codependency often happens when we place our sense of worth and fulfillment in another person instead of in God. True freedom comes when we realize that our identity is found in Christ, and our joy and completeness are rooted in Him, not in others.

Psalm 62:5-6 says:

“Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from Him. Truly He is my rock and my salvation; He is my fortress, I will not be shaken.”

This verse is a call to find rest in God, who is your unwavering source of strength and security. When you place your hope and identity in Him, you are free to love others without becoming dependent on them for your sense of value.

3. Cultivating a Spirit of Peace

One of the fruits of the Spirit is peace, which can calm your heart and mind when you are caught in cycles of overthinking. God desires to give you peace that surpasses all understanding.

Philippians 4:6-7 encourages:

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

When you feel your thoughts spiraling, pause, and take it to God in prayer. Ask for His peace, which can bring clarity and calm even in difficult situations.

4. Daily Prayer for Overthinking and Codependency

Here is a prayer you can pray daily to seek God’s guidance and peace:

Dear Heavenly Father,

I come before You today, laying my worries and fears at Your feet, holding on to the hem of your garment. I confess that I have been trying to control things in my life, and I have leaned on others to find my worth. But today, I choose to place my trust in You, knowing that You are the one who directs my path and holds my future. Help me to let go of anxious thoughts, and grant me the peace that only You can give. Teach me to find my identity in You alone and to love others freely without depending on them for my happiness.

Guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and strengthen me with Your Word each day.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen. On earth as it is in heaven.

5. Practical Steps to Take

• Spend Time in the Word: Meditate on scriptures that remind you of God’s sovereignty and love. Write down verses that bring you peace and keep them visible throughout your day.

• Daily Surrender: Each morning, take a moment to pray and consciously surrender your day to God. Trust that He will take care of both the small and big details.

• Boundaries in Relationships: Remember that you are complete in Christ. Be mindful of placing healthy boundaries in your relationships, knowing that you do not need others to define your worth.

You are wonderfully made, and God has a unique plan for your life that doesn’t require carrying the weight of overthinking or relying on anyone else for fulfillment. Take comfort in knowing that He is with you every step of the way.

These are the very qualities we’re called to nurture within ourselves and share with others.

Let these fruits guide us as we prepare for the stillness of winter and the blessings yet to come. We are here to walk in love, joy, and faithfulness, trusting that our perseverance will be rewarded in divine timing.  Overcoming trauma of any kind is a process that takes time, patience, and grace. It's important to remember these deeply ingrained behaviors won't shift or vanish overnight.

1. Recognizing It’s a Journey

Breaking free from overthinking and codependency is not something you can achieve in a single moment. It’s a gradual process that requires continual growth, reflection, and reliance on God. There may be setbacks along the way, but every step forward is progress. Trust that healing happens in stages, and be patient with yourself. Don’t expect perfection right away — instead, focus on small wins, moments when you pause to pray instead of overthinking, or when you choose to draw strength from God rather than relying too heavily on others for validation.

2. Being Kind to Yourself

During this journey, self-compassion is key. Often, when we struggle with overthinking, we also tend to be overly critical of ourselves and others. It’s important to remind yourself that you’re doing the best you can with the tools and awareness you have right now. Give yourself the grace that God offers you freely.

Isaiah 40:31

“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”

Trust that as you wait on the Lord and learn to release control, He will renew your strength. In moments of frustration or self-doubt, speak kindly to yourself. Replace negative self-talk with affirmations of faith, acknowledging that God is working in and through you, even when you can’t see it clearly.

3. Trusting God and Recognizing Divine Signs

As you work to let go of overthinking and codependency, you’ll begin to notice signs and synchronicities — those seemingly coincidental moments that are, in fact, divine guidance. These “coincidences” are often God’s way of communicating with us, showing that He is guiding our steps and aligning things for our good. The more you trust God, the more these signs will become evident.

For example, you might repeatedly see a scripture that speaks directly to what you’re going through or encounter a person who offers the exact words of encouragement you needed in that moment. These are not random. When you place your trust in God, your awareness of His presence and guidance grows, helping you discern these moments as part of His greater plan for your life.

Psalm 37:23 says:

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in Him.”

Recognizing these signs is about being open and receptive to the ways in which God speaks. It requires stepping back from overthinking, trusting that the things you need will come in due time, and noticing the little moments of alignment that reassure you that you’re on the right path.

God often speaks to us through signs that appear in our everyday lives.

He speaks to me through animals, and these moments remind me of His presence and guidance. There are no coincidences, only divine messages - synchronicities, from God to remind us to trust the path we are on and to know that He is with us, orchestrating everything for our good in perfect timing.

In this process, be gentle with yourself. Trust that the transformation will come as you continue to rely on God. Celebrate the small milestones along the way — the moments when you catch yourself overthinking and choose to release it, or when you notice signs of God’s guidance in your day. As you practice patience and trust, you will experience the freedom of peace and wholeness in Christ.

“Believe it to see it.”

This is my reminder that my faith leads the way for the miracles in our lives.

When we truly believe that we can live with spiritual clarity — that is when we begin to see it unfold before us. A sign is a sign, right?

Spiritual psychosis and delusions can occur when someone becomes overwhelmed by spiritual experiences, losing touch with reality and mistaking every thought or sensation as a sign. It’s important to differentiate between true divine signs and mental confusion, as the line can sometimes blur. Signs from God are subtle and affirming. Staying grounded and focused on your spiritual journey requires discernment, patience, and guidance.

Isaiah 7:11 reminds us, “Ask the Lord your God for a sign, whether in the deepest depths or in the highest heights.”

Believing Before You See It

One of the most powerful shifts in overcoming these struggles is learning to believe before you see the results. Overthinking often stems from needing immediate clarity, wanting to control and understand every detail before taking a step.

But God calls us to walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).

Trusting God means letting go of the need for full understanding and believing that He is at work, even when you can’t see the full picture. This act of faith opens the door for signs and synchronicities to show up in your life. When you surrender to God’s timing and believe in His promises, you’ll begin to recognize the moments that reflect His hand in your journey.

Remember, growth takes time, but with every step, you are moving closer to the abundant life God has planned for you.

I believe this time of year is when we are need of hearing those divine messages — signs that point us to our next steps, to the growth we’re ready for, and to the inner harvest waiting for us.

Unconditional love to acceptance, gratitude to abundance, self-love to romantic love, walks in nature to insight, journaling to calmness, exercise to energy, servicing others to joy, meditation to intuition, being a friend to having friendships... the road to freedom.

The road to freedom may have closed roads, but there is always an alternate route, a detour.

Detour is a long or roundabout route that is taken to avoid something or to visit somewhere along the way.

Keep Going.

I once heard, the greater good always comes at a personal cost. Always. All ways.

This is where a spiritual life coach becomes invaluable — providing clarity, wisdom, and balance as you navigate your path, ensuring you remain aligned with truth and not led astray by distorted perceptions. Let me walk alongside you as we discern those signs and gather the fruits of your journey. If you’ve been feeling the nudge to go deeper, to seek clarity, to refresh your spiritual practice, now is the time. I’d love to work with you, and as always, feel free to share this information with friends and loved ones who may also be seeking guidance during this season.
